Membership Information

The Rookery is a private club owned by the members. The club is a mixed gender club that has members of all ages and abilities. Our current range is from 17 to 90 years of age! We have bowlers of all standard from novice and new bowlers up to bowlers of full County
standard and even International bowlers.

The club has a full size 6 rink bowling green to County Standards and when the occasion arises can accommodate 8 rinks. The club house has a licensed bar, function room, kitchen, separate male and female changing rooms with toilets. There is also a large car park for the
exclusive use of members and guests.

Coaching is always available to help new bowlers to learn how to bowl or to help a bowler improve their standard of play. Our more experienced players are also available to give a helping hand. We are one of the very few clubs to play both variations of flat lawn bowls played in Suffolk. We are affiliated to both the BE (Bowls England) and Federation.

Our full list of affiliations is as follows:-

  • Bowls England (BE)
  • English Ladies Bowling Association,
  • Suffolk County Bowling Association,
  • Suffolk County Women's Bowling Association,
  • Federation (EBF),
  • English Bowling Federation,
  • Suffolk County Bowls Association and
  • Suffolk County Women’s Bowls Association.

Also, we are registered under The Industrial and Provident Societies Act 1965.

We take our responsibilities very seriously and welcome new members of any age, creed or physical ability – especially the young. We have officers who have received training in child protection.

The bowling green is available from April to September – exact dates depend on the weather and one or two other considerations. The green is usually available for members to use at any time from 10.00am. However, the green may be closed for short periods for maintenance or for six rink matches.
